(Pictures on photos page.) Simba Blood, Natural Resources Technician with the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District, took us on a very informative tour to show us the results of a major, 7-year shoreland restoration of Lake Phalen. Ms. Blood shared with us the history of the lake and the environmental degradation it had experienced over many years. She explained the painstaking process of soil removal and planting of native species to stabilize the lake shore. We were able to see for ourselves prairie, wet meadow, emergent, and aquatic native plants thriving along the lake. Ms. Blood was very helpful in answering our questions about methods to control vigorously spreading natives and undesirable invasives. We would encourage everyone to visit Lake Phalen and experience the beauty of this restoration.
